by Jelani H.I have heard these words plastered in way too many rap tracks, I like artists like DMX and Ludacris, so a few days ago I was wondering how come I don't use these words to describe anyone. Then I realized its because I don't know any “nigga’s”, “Bitch’s” or "ho’s".
I hear some emcees use words like “bitch” and “ho” and I think “That is THIER experience”, I assume they must have met or know people who fit the negative characteristics embodied in such words. Why keep on repeat though? To repeat “bitch” or “ho” gives the word power, power to not only influence the continuance of the words use as a means to degrade woman, but also the power to attract all the negative attributes that the word represents. I’m thinking: If an emcee keeps talking about “ho dis” and “bitch dat”, what type of women does he expect to be surrounded by?? I wonder if they have ever heard of the term "self-fulfilling prophecy".
The use of the word nigga still plagues rap. “I say it (nigga) to show respect to my peeps” one may defend... "come again??" I say "Are you talking about your slaving, struggling peeps?" Sorry but I don't know anyone like that. The word “Nigger” will always be a negative word to me, too much hatred, anger, and suffering has been associated with the word. If anyone were to call me "nigger" in an attempt to verbally abuse me, I would not get angry, I would not retaliate, why would I ?!?! THEY have said the word, THEY have made this negative 6 letter word a part of who they are. Let them keep their negativity, I will not pass it on by arguing or fighting, I would preffer to give my energy and attention elsewhere.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Ditto J. As a mother of 2 beautiful black men, as a woman I agree. I can only try to instill better values in my children than some of the music and lyrics that they (and I myself) listen to.
congrats J. :)

i strongly agree with what your saying, jay. but i also find that these words are said because the artists for example dmx, is accustomed to saying these words since they were young. its almost part of their vocabulary. which...is sad also cus they have no idea what effect the word has.
as a rapper i found myself using these words a lot, as if they are the norm, and to some extent they are. but as i get older and grow the hell up i'm learning that there are other ways to express urself and that mainsteam RAP is not HIPHOP. there is far too much negitivity in music nowadays that goes by no explanations. Remember 2pacs "wonder why they call u bitch"??? at least he explained himself. and what is silliest to me is that 90% of rappers are male and 90% of ppl who by cds are female......the girls must not mind too much....still as a rapper i will try to do me and not support negitive music.
and to all other local rappers out there: step up game up!! writing a verse should be like a michaelangelo art project...not a 2nd grade finger painting like most of u make
peace
HIPHOP is MUSIC
Hey Jelani =]
Kayy so i totally agree with youu.
When peoplee think about black people, they think vulgarity, some nudity and mostly bad language all together. If the word "nigger" is associated with slavery and suffering, why should it be offenseve when said to hurt us? Seeing as how black people over came this slavery, it should be seen as a compliment i think.
if rappers as famous and as known as DMX use such words as Bitcha dn Hoe in their words, this gives out the message to their faithful listeners that this is right. Why is it that people with such power choose to abuse it that way? Why not use that fame to preach to people the good contributions black people have made. Not only the bad such as bad grammar.
That's what i hafta sayy =]
Love,Ariell.
i'm truelly touch to see that there is still people taht take hip hop seriously and not just the standard and commercial way impose by sociaty. tx a lot for what you're doing. cant wait to see more...

no matter how hard we try to fight those type of things, we have to admit we are willing to give some of the power away to listen to a good beat. Alors je suis tt a fait d'accord moi aussi.. niggas and bitches and hoes... those words ain't me, I am a strong black person and none of them mcs and other artists can take that away from me. It sucks they have to uses those to sell but hey, what's are we gonna do about it?...
What are we gonna do about it? Are we strong enough to boycott these artists until they make a change? I'm sure ppl wouldn't want to do that. I believe that power comes in numbers and if enough ppl come together to try and make a change, then someone is bound to listen. Until then, I know all I can do, since I am raising two little girls, is keep that kind of music out of my house. When they are older and exposed to it and have questions, I will give the most honest answer I can, depending on their age. I love HIPHOP, and I want my kids to be aware of this culture. Despite where it is going, we DO have something to be proud of.

On the real I feel what your saying, and i wish their was something we can do, the sad thing is about it is that they probably use these words because they witnessed other rappers use those words and go multi platinum so we shouldnt only be blamming them its the people that buuy the cds that are also the criminals nah meen? Im an emcee and i dont think ive used any of those words on any of my tracks people really gotta get a full understanding of what that word means and the state hip-hop is in right now, instead of spitting negativity we should try and make some music thats gunna have positive affects, if you truly love your hood then try and make a difference so they dont gotta live the bad life that you did nah meen.
Peace
